How it works

  1. 1 Load your item list as Excel or CSV, or paste it, one row per item.
  2. 2 Choose which column holds the code and which text goes on the label, and if you like, how many labels per item.
  3. 3 Pick your label format, A4 sheet or label printer. On a partly used sheet, enter the first free label.
  4. 4 Download the PDF and print it at actual size. Then scan with the Live Barcode Scanner.

How the tool works

What it does

You turn your item list into ready-to-print labels: one barcode per row with a description and, if you like, a second line such as a storage location or item number. Print on A4 label sheets or with a label printer, as many per item as your table says.

How it's built

Your browser reads the table, even if it starts below a letterhead. The codes are generated by zxing-cpp as WebAssembly and the PDF by pdf-lib, all on your device. Every code is checked first: a wrong check digit or invalid characters show up at the top with the row number instead of quietly ending up on a label.

Good to know: Do one print with outlines on plain paper and hold it against a sheet before you use the expensive labels. Long numbers need wide labels, otherwise the bars get too fine; the tool warns you. Products sold in retail need their own GTIN from GS1; for the warehouse and shelves, Code 128 is enough.

Frequently asked questions

Are my files uploaded?

No. With this tool your file never leaves your device.

Which labels fit?

Common A4 sheets with 14, 16, 21, 24, 40 or 65 labels, plus single labels for label printers. Compare the size in millimetres with the pack. Do a first print with outlines on plain paper and hold it against a sheet in front of a light; if it's off, shift everything millimetre by millimetre under fine-tuning. Always print at "Actual size" or 100 %.

Are there limits on file size or page count?

The main limit is your device, because that is where the work happens. Files up to 100 MB work reliably. With very large files, an older smartphone needs a little patience.

Is the tool free?

Yes. All tools on Gatefrog are free to use, with no sign-up, no installation and no watermark from us.
