How it works
- 1 Paste your numbers, one per line. Copying straight from Excel works fine.
- 2 If the check digit is missing, it's calculated and added. If it's there, it's verified.
- 3 For each number you see the format and who issued it, such as GS1 Germany or an internal number.
- 4 Copy the finished numbers or save everything as a CSV for Excel.

How it's built
The check digit follows the GS1 method with weights 3 and 1. We match the prefix to the issuing GS1 organisation and recognise internal numbers, books and magazines.

What happens to my input?

Does a correct check digit mean the EAN is genuine?
No. The check digit only shows that nobody made a typo. Whether the number has actually been issued, and to which company, is listed in the GS1 service “Verified by GS1”. And the prefix only names the GS1 organisation that issued it, not the country the product comes from.
